ABOUT
UTAH HAS A RICH PROSPECTING HISTORY
The Utah Gold Prospecting Club is the oldest operating prospecting club in the state of Utah. The club started in 1982 with a small handful of people who had the same interest in gold prospecting and grew to today supporting over 300 members. The Club is open to everyone who wishes to join in on the experience of recreational gold prospecting and mining.
The goal of the club is to educate people about recreational gold prospecting, with topics including:
-
How gold is formed,
-
Why it ends up where it does
-
Understanding geological aspects
-
Identifying rock sources
-
Mineral evaluation of ore samples
-
Safety
-
Rules and laws
-
Environmental hazards
-
Safe mining practices
The club accomplishes its goal thru regular monthly meetings that include guest speakers, demonstrations, peer recognition (“finds of the month”), booths at various rock and mineral shows throughout the state, and planned outings during the summer months to various mining claims and/or private property.
While you may not find large gold nuggets in Utah, don't be mistaken, there is Gold here. In fact, even though the bulk of Utah's Gold is very fine, there is much to be had. Utah is one of the Top 10 gold producing states in the US. With the right tools, know how, and a lot of patience...you,too, can experience the rush of finding your first nugget or the thrill of weighing in your gold dust that you have been accumulating.
Utah has more than gold to offer, Utah is rich with silver, gems, and other precious minerals.
